On Friday, 20 June 2008, the International Network for European Studies (INES) will hold a discussion panel on the topic of “Current and Future Challenges of the Western Balkans”. The event will be hosted and co-organized by EuropaPunktBremen, taking place at Bremen Regional Assembly (“Bremische Bürgerschaft”) from 1.30 pm.
In the course of the afternoon there will be speeches and discussions by diverse representatives of politics and science. Prof. Dr. Josef Falke from the Center for European Law and Politics at the University of Bremen (ZERP) will talk about the European Union’s policy towards the Western Balkans. Afterwards, Marieluise Beck, Member of the Bundestag, is going to discuss challenges and opportunities of the Western Balkan area from a perspective of German Foreign Policy. The second part of the event will then be dedicated to country-specific reflections. We are proud to announce that Hans Koschnick, former Prime Minister of the Federal State of Bremen and former chairman of the Steering Committee for Refugee Matters within the Stability Pact for South Eastern Europe, will hold a speech on German and European projects for reconstruction and stabilization in Bosnia and Hercegovina. Furthermore, Hamdi Reqica (currently Ph.D. student at the University of Bremen) will shed light on possible consequences of the declaration of independence of Kosovo.
After these speeches there will be a panel discussion on the topic, conducted by INES Chairman Erik Breves.
