An alliance of civil organizations and initiatives, trade unions, political parties and individual citizens against right-wing extremist aggression has been organizing democratic and peaceful protests against the attempts of right-wing activists to abuse the memory of the bombings of Magdeburg at the end of the Second World War. On 17 January 2009 the alliance and the City of Magdeburg for the first time organized a “Mile of Democracy” and asked the civil society to take part in it. The regional group of INES in Magdeburg also followed the call and presented the network with an information desk and a wheel of fortune. Many nice talks and discussions about Europe, the European Studies programme of the Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and of course the network itself evolved with interested citizens. A great success for INES, Magdeburg and the peaceful fight against right-wing aggression.
