‘The Brussels Democracy’, 13-18 February 2009

Dear INES-members and Friends,

The European policy-making process sometimes seems intransparent and difficult to follow. Who is able to decide what? Who is responsible for a particular regulation? How can citizens participate within the policy-making process to defend their own interests and express their opinion? With these questions in mind, the International Network for European Studies (Internationales Netzwerk für Europastudien e.V.) in cooperation with our international partners and the Youth in Action Programme of the European Commission, offers a seminar in Brussels, open for young interested people between 18 and 25.

‘The Brussels Democracy: Citizen Participation and Multi-Level Governance in Europe’ takes place in Brussels from 13 February to 18 February 2009. Participation fees are 120 Euro (100 Euro for formal INES Members) covering meals and lodging. 75% of the travel costs will be refunded if you provide all your tickets (please make sure to choose the most favorable price of transport).

Notice that in order to match with the criteria for sponsorship it is important to appreciate the arrival and departure date of our seminar.

Besides a workshop on European policy-making, participants will have the opportunity to get in touch with EU policy makers from various levels and to visit important European institutions like – among others – the European Parliament, the Permanent Representation of the Federal Republic of Germany, as well as NGOs and lobbyist organizations. Most of all, this project invites young people to explore the ways for citizen participation and to develop their own ideas of how to get involved.

If you are interested, please fill out the form below with personal details and further information concerning your motivation, and email it back to us to: brussels-democracy (at) ines-online.eu. The deadline for application is 21 January 2009. Please note that due to a limited amount of places, we will have to choose our participants with regard to their motivation.

We are looking forward to an interesting and fruitful seminar in Brussels!
